Free Legal Clinic
Do you have a legal or law-related question about your nonprofit?
A legal clinic is an opportunity to chat with a lawyer with decades of experience in the Alberta nonprofit sector about a legal issue related to your nonprofit.
Is a Legal Clinic Right for Your Organization?
In a legal clinic, you can get information about law-related issues like incorporating your organization, revising your bylaws, obtaining charitable status, creating policies, choosing a legal structure, or dissolving your organization.
How to Request a Legal Clinic
To request a legal clinic, please fill out the Legal Clinic Request Form. In this form, you provide information about your organization, and the issue you are facing. You will also upload relevant documents.
The information and documents you provide will be fully reviewed by the legal professional before your clinic.
Before You Book a Clinic
-
Legal clinics are typically scheduled on Thursdays. Depending on volume, your clinic may take up to four weeks to schedule.
-
Multiple members of your team can attend the clinic.
-
Clinics are one hour in length. We recommend asking about a single issue per clinic.
-
Clinics are an opportunity to discuss legal issues related to your nonprofit. There are some issues that we are not able to assist with such as human resources/employment issues or litigation.
-
We are able to discuss an issue, but are not able to offer specific legal advice. For legal advice, we recommend that you engage a lawyer.
